Short answer: first establish which legal entity has closed and whether an external administrator has been appointed. Stop further payments, preserve all records, contact the administrator, card issuer and finance provider promptly, and identify who supplied the caravan and its components. Recovery of a deposit or future warranty support is not guaranteed.

Dealer closure and manufacturer closure are different
If the dealer closes but the manufacturer continues, the supply contract, deposit and consumer claim may still sit with the dealer’s legal entity, while the manufacturer or component suppliers may continue some warranty support. If the manufacturer closes, the dealer may remain responsible as the supplier for applicable consumer guarantees, but parts and authorisation arrangements can become difficult.
Start with the contract and invoice. Identify the company that accepted your money and the separate entities providing warranties.
Check the official status
- Search the exact company on the ASIC company register.
- Use the ASIC register-search page to follow the current Published Notices link and check for administration, liquidation or other external-administration notices.
- Use the notice to identify the appointed administrator or liquidator.
- Use only verified contact details.
A closed showroom or unanswered phone does not by itself establish the legal status. A business may also trade while under an administrator, sometimes subject to new conditions.
If you paid a deposit and have no caravan
- Do not make another payment until the position is clear.
- Contact the external administrator and register for updates.
- Provide the contract, invoice, receipt and amount paid.
- Ask whether your order, partly built caravan or deposit is specifically identified.
- Contact your credit-card issuer immediately about possible chargeback rights and time limits.
- Notify any linked finance provider.
- Obtain legal advice before attempting to take possession of a partly completed caravan.
ASIC explains that a customer owed goods or a deposit may be an unsecured creditor. Whether money is returned depends on the administration and available assets.
If you already own the caravan
Secure copies of the final specification, VIN and RAV information, manuals, wiring and plumbing diagrams, service records, warranty documents, keys and component serial numbers. Download important documents from the manufacturer’s site while available, respecting copyright and permitted personal use.
Make a component list. Appliances, suspension, coupling, batteries, chargers and other equipment may have separate manufacturers, service networks or warranties.
Consumer guarantees may still matter
Where you bought from a dealer or other business, the supplier can remain responsible for applicable consumer guarantees even when the manufacturer is unavailable. If the supplier itself is insolvent, enforcing a remedy may be practically difficult. Obtain advice based on the actual contract and status.
A manufacturer’s written warranty ending with the business does not automatically define every Australian Consumer Law right, but it can change who is realistically available to perform or fund work.
Warranty and repair triage
- Separate urgent safety defects from routine warranty items.
- Check for an administrator’s customer notice or claims process.
- Contact the selling dealer if it remains trading.
- Contact component manufacturers using serial numbers.
- Use qualified independent repairers where authorised or necessary.
- Keep diagnostic reports, quotations, invoices and replaced parts where appropriate.
- Do not delay an urgent safety response while debating warranty responsibility.
Recalls continue to require action
Search Vehicle Recalls and Product Safety Australia. The recall notice identifies the responsible supplier and consumer action. If the named business is no longer operating, contact the relevant regulator for guidance.
Insurance and finance
Notify the insurer about material changes affecting risk, repairs or valuation. Ask the finance provider how an undelivered or defective asset affects the agreement; do not simply stop repayments without advice. Financial-product disputes follow different laws and complaint pathways from ordinary consumer guarantees.
Documents to preserve
- Quotation, contract and variations
- Invoices, receipts and bank records
- Advertisements and written representations
- VIN, RAV and registration evidence
- Warranty and service documents
- Emails, messages and call notes
- Defect, inspection and repair reports
- Administrator notices and creditor forms
- Card issuer and finance-provider correspondence
Reduce this risk before ordering
Check the legal entity before paying, keep the deposit proportionate, tie payments to clear evidence, preserve specifications and understand the dealer, manufacturer and component-support relationships. No check removes business-failure risk, but a clean file and limited exposure improve your position.
