How to Check Whether a Caravan Has Been Recalled

Practical Australian caravan guidance

Short answer: check both the Australian Vehicle Recalls database and Product Safety Australia. Vehicle Recalls covers road vehicles and approved vehicle components; Product Safety Australia can contain caravan habitation products and accessories such as appliances. Search before buying, save the result and confirm in writing that any applicable recall work was completed.

Why two recall searches can be necessary

A caravan is both a road vehicle and a living space containing products. A chassis, axle, brake or integrated vehicle-component recall belongs in the road-vehicle system. A safety issue involving a habitation product or consumer accessory—such as some fridges or stoves—may appear through Product Safety Australia.

Collect the details before searching

  • Caravan make, model and variant
  • Build year and model year
  • VIN or chassis number
  • Suspension, axle, brake and coupling brands where known
  • Appliance brands, models and serial numbers
  • Battery, charger, inverter and solar equipment details

Do not rely on the caravan brand alone. A recall may apply to a component used across many manufacturers or to only a specific VIN, batch or date range.

How to search Vehicle Recalls

  1. Search the caravan make and model.
  2. Repeat searches for the manufacturer and important running-gear brands.
  3. Open the recall notice and check year range, variants and affected identifiers.
  4. Download or inspect any VIN list.
  5. Follow the supplier’s instructions if the exact caravan may be affected.

Recent notices show why this matters. A December 2025 Windsor Genesis recall concerned axle-mounting brackets and listed 689 affected units. Use dated examples only as a reminder to search; do not assume a different model is affected.

How to search habitation products

Search Product Safety Australia for the appliance brand and model, then broader terms such as caravan fridge, stove, hot-water unit or accessory. Match model and serial details. A recall for one appliance does not automatically apply to every unit fitted to that caravan model.

Ask for proof of completion

A seller saying “it was done” is not the same as a record. Ask for the recall campaign number, date, repairer, job card and any replacement-part details. Contact the named supplier or authorised repairer if the record is unclear. Keep the evidence with the caravan’s service history.

If the caravan is affected

  • Read the official hazard and consumer instructions.
  • Stop using the vehicle or component if the notice says to do so.
  • Contact the named supplier or repair network.
  • Do not improvise a safety repair.
  • Confirm whether the remedy is inspection, repair, modification or replacement.
  • Retain proof after the remedy is completed.

Before buying a used caravan

Make the recall search part of the broader Used Caravan Buying Checklist. Also match the VIN, complete a PPSR search, inspect condition and verify service records. If recall work cannot be confirmed, price alone is not a reason to proceed.

After buying

Recall information can be published after the sale. Keep manufacturer and supplier contact details current where registration is offered, and repeat the search periodically—particularly before remote travel or when you become aware of a component concern.

What a clear recall search does not prove

No result does not establish that the caravan is safe, compliant or free from a defect. A recall addresses an identified systemic problem. Individual wear, poor servicing, water entry, damage, unsafe modifications and installation faults still require inspection.

Recall-check record

  • Date searched
  • Databases searched
  • Terms and identifiers used
  • Notices reviewed
  • Supplier response
  • Repair evidence
  • Date to check again
