How Much Power Does Starlink Use in a Caravan?

Practical Australian caravan guidance

Starlink can be a major daily energy load when it runs for many hours, so plan it in watt-hours rather than looking only at its instantaneous watts.

Current official power figures

Starlink's power guidance lists averages that vary by kit. At the time of writing, Starlink Mini is listed around 20–40 W average, while current Standard kits are listed around 75–100 W average. Temperature, location and use can change consumption, so confirm the specification for your exact hardware.

Convert watts into daily energy

Daily Wh = average watts × hours used. For example, 35 W for eight hours is 280 Wh. At 12 V, the idealised equivalent is about 23 Ah before conversion and system losses. An AC power supply and inverter can add losses; a supported DC arrangement may differ, so follow Starlink and equipment-maker requirements.

Build a realistic usage plan

  • Separate active work or streaming hours from idle hours.
  • Include the router and power supply if they are part of your setup.
  • Schedule large downloads when solar input is strong where practical.
  • Allow for cloudy days and other essential loads such as refrigeration, pumps and communications.

The official Starlink Mini specification lists its input and power requirements. Do not assume any cable, plug or USB source is suitable just because it fits.
